Our History
Ortho. Nigeria International (The O.N.I. Clinic) journey began with the visionary leadership of Dr. Julius Oni, an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Former Director for Global Orthopedics at Johns Hopkins. Driven by a profound commitment to addressing healthcare disparities in underserved countries, Dr. Oni embarked on a transformative mission to revolutionize orthopedic care, starting with Nigeria.
In recognition of the pressing need for advanced musculoskeletal care in Nigeria, Dr. Oni took a significant step by taking a leave of absence from his roles at Johns Hopkins. This decision marked the beginning of The O.N.I. Clinic (formerly known as DOCMed Ng), an initiative dedicated to bridging the gap in orthopedic care in underserved communities through education, innovation, and compassionate service.
In line with its mission to improve access to world-class orthopedic care in underserved countries starting with Nigeria, The O.N.I. Clinic is collaborating with Operation Stand Walk Run (OSWR), a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing mobility and quality of life for individuals with musculoskeletal conditions in the country.
One of the flagship initiatives of The O.N.I. Clinic is the Joint Replacement Fellowship. This program, spearheaded by Dr. Oni, is designed to train two surgeons annually, equipping them with the advanced skills and knowledge needed to perform complex joint replacement surgeries. Through this fellowship, we aim to build a cadre of highly skilled orthopedic surgeons who can elevate the standard of care in Nigeria and contribute to the global advancement of orthopedics.
The O.N.I. Clinic's impact extends beyond clinical training and patient care. We are deeply committed to research and innovation, continually exploring new techniques and treatments to improve patient outcomes. Our fellows will actively participate in cutting-edge research projects, contributing to the body of knowledge in orthopedic surgery and enhancing their own expertise.
